Teatime on the Titanic
Regardless of which class passengers were in on the Titanic, there was a point in the mid-morning and mid-afternoon when guests stopped what they were doing and enjoyed a cup of tea or hot lemonade and nibbled on freshly baked scones. A scone is a bread-like pastry which has a slightly sweet taste. It is often served with a plump mound of butter and some marmalade or jam. It was customary to converse with other passengers on the ship about various polite topics during teatime.
During our “Day aboard the Titanic, we had scones and lemonade in the afternoon. You can use the recipe below to make your own scones at home. Make the scones, tea, and/or lemonade, and be prepared for your polite conversations. Be sure to use your best manners and etiquette.
