Our class theme for the 2010-2011 school year is "Rockin' Room 13." Below is a description of how we weaved the theme into bulletin boards, classroom management, and other activities throughout the school year. |

In the hallway outside of our classroom, visitors are immediately introduced to the rock stars that they will find inside Rockin' Room 13! | |
| Rock Star Posters On the first day of school, each student took a picture with inflatable rock star props and/or hats. I then used Print Shop to crop the students' bodies and insert them onto a stage background. Students also completed a "Rock Star Bio" in which they described themselves and their personalities. Download Rock Star Poster Print Shop Files (WinZip File/65 MB) (You must have WinZip to unzip the files. There are also fonts included that you will need to install on your computer. This is a very large file that will take a while to download.)
***Note: You must have Print Shop Version 23 or Print Shop 3.0 installed on your computer to open the Print Shop files once you have unzipped them. The files will not open in Print Shop 2.0.) Once you have opened the file in Print Shop, you can double click in the headlines to change the text. You will also have to delete the current picture and insert pictures of your students. I use the freehand crop tool in Print Shop to cut around the students' heads.

American Idol Posters When I did a Rock-n-Roll theme during the 2006 school year, the students posed as "American Idols" instead of Rock Stars. Each student took a picture with a microphone, and I then used Print Shop to crop the students' faces and place them in front of a "Newingham Idol" Poster. Students also completed an "Idol Profile" in which they described themselves and their personalities. Download American Idol Poster Print Shop Files (WinZip File) (You must have WinZip to unzip the files. There are also fonts included that you will need to install on your computer.)

Rockin'
Responsibilities Our class jobs are known as "Rockin' Responsibilities." I just used smaller version of the students' rock star posters for the pictures that rotate each day. |

Behind the Music: The Room 13 Rock Band We made this movie at the beginning of the 2010 school year to go along with the Rock Star theme in our classroom. In this movie, we pretend that our class became a famous rock band during the year they were in Rockin' Room 13. We then check in on them 20 years later to see what they did with their lives after the rock band "broke up."
|
Newingham Idols We made a movie at the beginning of the 2006 school year after the Rockin' Room 13 students wrote about what they would be doing in 20 years. It was shown to parents at Curriculum Night.

"GREATEST HITS" End of the Year Celebration or Open House At the end of our 2006 school year, we celebrated our wonderful year together with a "Greatest Hits" video celebration where the Rockin' Room 13 Rock Stars and their parents enjoyed a memory video with photos and video footage from our favorite events throughout the school year. This could also be done at an open house or other similar event. Read more and see pictures from the special 2006 event!
