A Van & Airplane Tour of the West

During our tour of the West region, we traveled by van and by airplane. Students took turns being the driver and the pilot. Check out the exciting adventures we had!

Our first stop in the west was Lolo Pass, a stop on the trail of the famous explorers, Lewis and Clark.

Our second stop was at Yellowstone National Park.  We visited the Yellowstone website to view the Old Faithful Webcam.

The Old Faithful Geyser erupts more frequently than any of the other big geysers, although it is not the largest or most regular geyser in the park. (old_faithful_4c)

In Leadville, Colorado, we learned about mining.  Silver and lead were especially popular at one time in this town.

Perhaps our favorite stop was in California when we went to Disneyland!  It was our second Disney stop since we also stopped at Disney World in Florida.

After many hours of travel, we reached California's Central Valley.  We enjoyed raisins produced in California.

Our stop at the Columbia River Gorge was exciting and informational.  The Columbia River cuts through the Cascade Mountain Range, creating the 100-mile-long and 3,000-foot-deep Columbia River Gorge.

We boarded an airplane for our next two tour stops in Alaska and Hawaii

Our next exciting stop was in Alaska, the largest state in our country.  We visited the Scholastic website to see pictures of the trail, learn how to take care of sled dogs, and meet some of the racers.

We ended our entire region tour in the wonderful state of Hawaii.  We celebrated with a Hawaiian party in our classroom.

After the luau, students created an itinerary for a class trip to Hawaii.  Each student was given a $400 budget to plan three days of excursions for the class.  They were also given a list with descriptions and costs of the many excursions available on the Hawaiian Islands.  We wish that we could really have gone on the trips we planned!!
