Our first stop in the Southwest was
Monument Valley, home of the original Navajo Indian Reservation. |

Our stop in Phoenix was short and
sweet. We couldn't stay long because it is the hottest city in the
Southwest. It's a good thing we had air conditioning in the big rig!

Our trip to Hoover Dam was very
informational. We worked in groups to solve problems that the
architects and construction workers faced when building the dam.
We presented our solutions to our classmates.

The Grand Canyon was even bigger than
we imagined!!! Did you know that the canyon is over 1 mile deep?

Perhaps the most lively place we
visited in the Southwest was Carlsbad Cavern National Park. We
arrived at sundown, so we were able to see a cloud of bats leave the cave.

During our stop in El Paso, New Mexico
we got used to living in a "border city." We did an activity in
which students asked to out themselves in specific roles including:
-an American teacher
with many students in her class who speak only Spanish
-an
owner of an American factory that is located in Mexico
-a
Mexican worker at the American-owned factory

At the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, we
learned about how the Texas Freedom Fighters gave their lives to fight for
their independence.

capital building. It is the largest capital building in the nation! |
