Our Polar Express Adventure

What an exciting adventure we had on our day aboard The Polar Express!  Read about our adventures and check out pictures of the memorable train ride below!

Since the Polar Express picks children up in the middle of the night, students wore their pajamas to school.  Bath robes, nightgowns, and flannel pants were abundant in our classroom!
Before entering the train, students showed their ticket to Mrs. Newingham, the Room 13 Polar Express conductor.

The entire class boarded the train with their most special belongings.  Students were able to keep their tickets as souvenirs of the exciting trip.

Once all students were aboard The Polar Express, the train whistle blew, and the locomotive sprung into action.  The lights dimmed, and our ride to the North Pole began.

As the train traveled over hills and mountains, Mrs. Newingham read aloud the famous story.  At the end of the story, she pulled a bell out of her bathrobe pocket and jingled it for all students "who believe" to hear.

Just like the real children aboard The Polar Express, students enjoyed "chocolate candies with nougat centers as white as snow."

As a memento of the memorable trip, students were given a Polar Express cookie with an attached bell.  Did you hear the bell when your child brought it home to show you?

The most prized possession of the young boy in the story is his silver bell.  Students in Room 13 brought along their most prized possession.

Students wrote about their special items in their Writer's Notebooks.  They tried to use similes to describe their possessions in great detail.  Check back soon to read each student's entry.
