Meet Mrs. Newingham

This is my twelfth year teaching at Hill Elementary School.  I have taught two years in fifth grade, one year in second, and eight years in third grade.  Every year has been exciting and memorable, as I have been lucky to teach such wonderful students.  Hill Elementary is a great place where I truly enjoy being around such enthusiastic students, staff, and parents.

I grew up in Waterford, but  now live in Rochester Hills with my husband Justin.  We welcomed Luke, our first son, in 2008 and our second son, Evan, in 2010.  They are the loves of our life, and we enjoy every minute we spend with them!

Here's a bit more information on my educational background.  I graduated from Albion College (a small liberal arts school) in May of 2000 with a Bachelor's Degree in English and Elementary Education.  I also received special certification in technology (MCOATT), so I often put computers to use in my classroom and in our school.  I completed my Masters in the Art of Teaching in 2003, but I look forward to continuing my education throughout my teaching career.

I am also a huge sports fan! I played volleyball, basketball, and soccer in high school, and I love attending U of M football games in the fall.  I also love listening to all types of music. I believe music is also important in the classroom, and I try to incorporate it into my students' learning.

In my classroom, I promote an atmosphere of safety, trust, and respect. I work hard to build a sense of community among my students, and I emphasize the idea of teamwork. I value cooperation and collaboration both in my classroom and as I work with my peers.  I believe that great things can happen when we work together!  Hill is  a place where I really feel like part of a strong community and part of a winning team.
