We arrived in New Orleans on The Natchez Steamboat. Immediately, we received beads and festival masks. Mrs. Newingham showed us pictures of the the annual children's parade that takes place during the Mardi Gras celebration. More Info About Mardi Gras Parades

Students learned about the meaning of the beads and the masks. They

What
would Mardi Gras be without a feast? Knowing that the people of New
Orleans love spicy food, we made our own Chicken Gumbo (Campbell's Style).
Students helped pour the soup into a large pot before we warmed it in a

Making King Cake
For dessert, we made traditional King Cake, an oval cake often made during the Mardi Gras celebration. Follow the steps below to see how we made our King Cakes. |

Step 1: Roll individual cinnamon rolls together to form an oval on a lightly greased cookie sheet.
|
Step 2: Bake in the oven at 350º for 10 minutes or until ready. Step 3: Spread icing evenly on the cake. |

Step 4:
Take cake out oven.
Sprinkle purple, gold, and green sugar on the icing.

Step 5: Eat
the cake!
