In our classroom, students sit at hexagon tables.  All students have a chair pocket where they keep important folders and materials.
We hold class meetings, gather for mini lessons, teach lessons on our SMART Board, and do lots of interactive read-alouds in our large group gathering area.

In the Writing Center, students choose from a variety of decorated paper on which to publish their writing once a month.
During Reading Workshop, students love to read in the dish chairs, on the couch, or on the bean bag.  It's easy to get lost in a good book while getting cozy in one of these book nooks.

This is our guided reading table.  It is here where we read with our teachers.  We use reading strategies to help us  understand what we read.

We do not have a "teacher desk" in our classroom.  However, we have a classroom computer that we tuck into the corner to make more room for gathering areas and student work space.

Every time we read a book together, we discuss the book's theme.  As we come across common themes, we add them to our cupboards and post copies of the book covers under the thematic categories.

Students have individual book boxes in which they keep their books for Reading Workshop.  Next to their book box is their Reader's Notebook

We promote character education in our classroom by encouraging students to be "Bucket Fillers," not "bucket dippers!"  Learn more about our Bucket-Filler Program!

Our classroom library is leveled and organized by common topic, genre, theme, series, or author so that students can more easily choose books that are at their appropriate level for independent reading.  With our new room design this school year, we had to split up our nonfiction section in different areas of the classroom and move our "Favorite Authors" rolling cart to a different area of the classroom.

In the Writing Center, students choose from a variety of decorated paper on which to publish their writing once a month.  Above the writing center is our "Wonderful Word Collection."  As suggested in The CAFE Book, we tune in to interesting words and record them on this class chart for students to use in their own writing.

On some days during Word Study, students rotate through different Word Study Centers to practice the spelling patterns we are studying for the week.  Our "Lights, Camera, & Action" math workshop groups also follow our Hollywood Theme!

We try to add a home-like feel to our room by filling frames with family and class pictures.  This helps the kids feel like they know our "at-home families" and that they are our "school family."

This banner welcomes students to Studio 13 as they enter the back of our classroom and hang up their coats and backpacks in the morning.

Students empty their personal cubbies each day before they go home.  The cubbies are filled with notes from the teacher as well as homework assignments that have accumulated during the day.

The hallway outside our classroom lets visitors know that they are about to enter "Studio 13."  Hollywood Star posters and cast bios hang on our stage to highlight our special students.
